“Canon Singapore is pleased to support the Bone Marrow Donor Programme (BMDP) and their tireless efforts to help save patients of leukemia and other blood diseases. Canon believes in contributing to the well-being of the community and we are happy to support BMDP’s effort in building Singapore’s only register of voluntary bone marrow donors. We recently conducted a company-wide bone marrow donor drive together with BMDP and were encouraged by our staff’s enthusiasm and participation. We look forward to future collaborations with them in support of their mandate to improve the lives of people suffering from blood related diseases.”
– Mr Melvyn Ho Senior Vice President Corporate Strategic Group, Canon Singapore
When we first approached Canon, it was to invite them to participate in our Annual Gala and we were thrilled when the initial conversation opened the door to so many more opportunities. Did we need any equipment for our work – yes! A camera please – and how could we collaborate as we reach out to literally thousands of Singaporeans from all walks of life to sign them up to our cause.
All this culminated in a donor drive held in the company’s office, allowing us to reach out to the staff based here in Singapore. We had our usual lunchtime presentation followed by a Q&A session with the audience very keen to know more about our work. Almost everyone who could sign up did, and after the drive, some of them even brought other colleagues to sign up with us.
It was the ideal drive anyone could wish for and thanks to Canon Singapore for starting a conversation … and taking it further! Our work saves lives and it doesn’t cost an arm or a leg – just a simple 2-minute cheek swab and a commitment to come forward when identified as a match.
Our main enemy, is the vast misconception that people have about donating bone marrow – so any opportunity to reach out is welcome.
Thanks Canon – for our wonderful new camera and for coming on board to support our life-saving mission.
